Caught in a Paris Store Window

Welcome to my Gallery.

The following pages show many of my paintings. My goal is to sell these paintings, but if I cannot sell you one, I hope that you will take the time to look at them and enjoy them.

For me, the artist, painting with watercolors is first and foremost, a very selfish pursuit. I paint to enjoy the gift I have that enables me to capture a few moments in time in a way that helps me remember and experience, time and again, the feeling and joy I had in that location at that time in my life. Through that gift, I hope to convey to you the view but, also the feeling I had looking at the colors, shadows, movement, and other natural conditions present at the time. On each page there will be a brief note about the location and how the work came about. I will also show a value I have placed upon the painting.

In addition to my art, I offer the works of other artists here for your consideration. You will find their work in the Guest Artist Gallery tab above.

The painting above, “Caught in a Paris Store Window” is one of my favorites. During a trip to Paris, when I played the tourist, complete with my Nikon camera, I stood on a street lined with stores and photographed myself in this three-level reflection in the store window. The store was a menswear store complete with manikins decked out in suits and ties. The colors were red and blue which are the colors of both France and of Paris. The first level of reflection is of me–seen at the right center with the camera to my eye. Passing behind me were literally thousands of Parisians on motorcycles who were demonstrating, by their numbers and noise they created, their individual and collective disdain for a new Paris ordinance that required mufflers on their motorcycle’s engines. The second and third levels of reflection are seen in the center of the scene as mirrors within the store window captured other people crossing on the sidewalks across the street. (17×24; framed; 140# Bockingford cold-pressed paper) $500
